Mass education means the education of the people in general. At present the developed countries of the world are very much advanced in education. Almost cent percent people of these countries are educated. But Bangladesh is very poor in education. More than three-fourths of our people are illiterate. They are out-dated in thinking and ideas. They are ignorant of the modern progressive world. So mass education is a must for our country.
Education is the backbone and basis of all progress and prosperity of a country. A literate person can help in the economic development of a country whereas an agricultural country. For the development of our country everybody should know about the modern scientific methods of cultivation. But without education nobody can know it. ours is a free and developing country. Everybody should be educated to exercise his rights and duties wisely. So far overall development of the country, mass education is essential.
Illiteracy is a curse to a nation. So the following steps may be taken to remove the curse of illiteracy. Compulsory primary education may ensure mass education in the future. Night schools may be set up in every village to educate the adult people of the country. Teachers and educated persons can play an important role to uproot illiteracy from the country. The present government has taken five years programme to do away with illiteracy from the country. Our limited teachers and students are not enough to remove illiteracy from the country. All educated persons should take active part to make the programme successful.
