The uses and abuses of Television

The television is an instrument of sending pictures to distant place along with the transmission of voice. We can see the actual person and events in television and can also hear their voice. Television is a source of pleasure. On the screen of the television we can enjoy music and see the musician and his performance with our eyes. It gives us news, song, talks, plays along with the pictures. It gives us enormous opportunities to witness the manners and characters of the people of different countries. We can hear talks on health and hygiene. Advertisement are made through television for commercial purposes. Television programmers are not only entertaining; they can be highly educative too. Children can enrich their knowledge by watching various programmes on education. In advanced countries, it is used as an instrument of mass education. Farmers can witness the modern methods of cultivation in television.

A wide range of programmers of varied interest is telecast on numerous channels. Almost every middle class and even working class families have a television set today.
Television is used for distance learning. Several channels telecast highly informative programmers. Satellite telecasting has added new dimensions to television.

In spite of having a lot of merits, television has some demerits too. It has become an addiction for many. Often young boys and girls become much inclined to it. Consequently, they become careless of their studies. Children often watch cartoons on television that hampers badly their studies. They forget to take physical exercise due to the addiction of tv watching. This type of bad habit may hamper their health and mentality. 

However, it can be said that television has both advantages and disadvantages. At last, it can be allured that it is an effective instrument of entertainment as well as a valuable medium of instructions. It, indeed, plays an important role.
